After the first day of competition at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Classic at the Oak Point Golf Club, the Maryland women's golf team sits in 16th place overall, 13 strokes back of first-place Miami and East Tennessee. Two Terrapin golfers, Jessica Hollandsworth at +1 (73) and Alexis Holmes at +2 (74) sit in the current top-20.
The tournament, which features 43 collegiate teams and over 200 players in all, is the largest of the season for women's collegiate golf. After tomorrow's round, which the Terps will play at Cougar Point Golf Course, the top 22 teams will play Cougar Point for the tournament championship while the bottom 21 will play at Oak Point for a flight championship.
Posting a 73 in her round, Jessica Hollandsworth paced the Terps and found herself tied for fifth overall on the day. Meanwhile, Alexis Holmes was not far behind, as her 74 positioned her in a tie for 12th.
Stephanie Connelly of UCF leads the way after the first day with a -2 round of 70.
The Terps will be back in action tomorrow as they attempt to climb up the leader board and remain in the field of 22 which will compete for the overall tournament championship.
