
Casey and McDowell Make 2008 All-ACC Academic Women's Soccer Team

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Junior goalkeeper Mary Casey and sophomore midfielder Caitlin McDowell were among 42 student-athletes selected to the 2008 All-ACC Academic Women's Soccer team.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
Casey, a kinesiology major with a 3.956 GPA, started the first four matches of the season as a center back before taking over the starting keeper spot for the Terps in the fifth game of the 2008 season. She finished the season ranked sixth in the ACC with a 0.90 goals against average. Casey also finished fourth in save percentage (.800) and sixth in saves per game (3.38).
Earlier this season Casey was named to the All-ACC first team and was a second team All-Mid-Atlantic selection by the NSCAA. She was also honored for her work in the classroom as a second team NSCAA Scholar All-American and a first team All-East Scholar. Casey has already been selected as the Terps' team captain for the 2009 season.
McDowell is enrolled in letters and sciences with a 3.875 cumulative GPA. The Plano, Texas, native played in all 18 matches last season with 17 starts. She finished the 2008 season with one goal and three assists.
