Ashley Williams placed seventh in the weight throw contributing to the tenth place finish of the University of Maryland and leading the Terrapins during the second day of competition at the ACC Indoor Championships in Blacksburg, Va. today.
Williams posted a throw of 57-01.50 in the weight throw, advancing to the finals. Teammate Jessie Echard placed 13th in the event with a throw of 50-04.75, while Kristen Batts followed in 14th place with a 50-02.00 throw.
In the 400 meters, senior Michelle Fedrick placed ninth in 55.68.
The women's distance medley relay team of Erin Matyus, Tolulope Olugbemi, Ashley Cromartie and Kristin Reed also recorded points for the Terrapin women, with their ninth place finish in the medley event. The foursome finished with a time of 12:04.60.
On the men's side, the distance medley relay team placed eighth in the event with a time of 10:17.16. Members included Josh Davis, Anthony Walker, Max Bruno and Mike Cator.
Also qualifying for event finals today was Jeremy Samuels, who posted a time of 48.26 in the preliminaries of the 400 meters and placed fifth. Anthony Walker and Chris Brown also competed in the event.
Also for the Terps, Jason Allen placed seventh in the long jump with a mark of 23-11.75.
In the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles, Legonn Haskins and Zach Ray both finished in the top-ten. Advancing to the finals, Haskins placed eighth with a time of 8.16, which is his season-best time in the event. Finishing ninth in the event with a time of 8.25, Ray's season best remains a time of 8.15 achieved at the Maryland Invitational. Chris Parker placed thirteenth in the event.
After the second day of competition, the Maryland women stand tied in 10th place with seven total points. The men are also tied for tenth place with three team points.
