Dwight Barbiasz Wins ACC Championship

Blacksburg, Va. - In his continuous success in the high jump, freshman Dwight Barbiasz placed first in the final day of the ACC Indoor Championships.

Jumping 7-02.25 in the event, Barbiasz made his way to third place on the Maryland's all-time list in the high jump tied with Brian Melly. The mark is also a season-best for the freshman. Also competing in the event for the Terps, senior David Edwards-Brennan finished seventh with a jump of 6-06.25.

Jeremy Samuels placed sixth in the 400 meters with a time of 48.14. The time is a season best for the junior and the team. It is also the third seventh-best mark for Maryland all-time. In the 60-meter hurdles, Legonn Haskins also placed sixth in 8.20.

The men's 4x400 team ran 3:16.74 finishing seventh. Competing for the Terps in the event were Anthony Walker, Floyd Hawkes, Chris Brown and Jeremy Samuels.

In the 3,000 meters, Mike Cator placed twenty-seventh with a time of 8:47.01while Kevin Gahr finished thirtieth in 8:51.39. For the women, the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Michelle Fedrick, DeAnna Brown, Melony McKay and Kiani Profit finished sixth with a time of 3:44.68, securing two points for Maryland.

In the mile, Christina Nelson finished tenth with a time of 5:04.61. Senior Ashley Williams also placed tenth in the shot put with a mark of 44-02.50, while Lindsay Ritchings finished fourteenth in the 3000 meters.

Overall, the Maryland men placed eleventh as a team with 23 total points, while the women finished 12th with 10.

The Terps return to action next week at the ECAC/IC4A Championships in Boston.
