COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland head volleyball coach Tim Horsmon has announced the promotion of Tami Ores to associate head coach, effective immediately.
Ores has spent the last six seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator under Horsmon, including last season at Maryland after five years at the University of Dayton.
"Tami has been a great assistant coach and I am excited to see her take on the new challenge of the associate head coach position," Horsmon said. "Tami has worked extremely hard and been very loyal to me and the programs we have worked for. We have been extremely fortunate to keep our coaching staff intact and I think that gives consistency to what we teach on and off the court.
"I will continue to lean on Tami as one of the best recruiters in the country, as well as her expertise with training setters. I couldn't be happier that Tami will continue to help guide our Terrapin program. We are committed to being one of the best volleyball programs in the country. I believe Tami and (assistant coach) Jason Oliver are as good a tandem as any around and feel great about the direction we are heading."
A former all-Atlantic 10 setter at Xavier University, Ores helped Horsmon and the Dayton program dominate the Atlantic 10 with four conference championships and four NCAA Tournament berths in five years. At Dayton, Ores trained back-to-back A-10 Setters of the Year Nicole Schott (2005) and Erin Schroeder (2006).
After breaking into the coaching business, Ores immediately announced her presence as one of the best recruiters in collegiate volleyball.
Ores' 2005 and 2006 Dayton recruiting classes were both ranked in the top 30 by Prep Volleyball. Ores' 2007 class was ranked 22nd by Prep Volleyball.
In her first year in College Park, Ores landed four gifted players in 6-foot-1-inch setter/right side Remy McBain (Leonia, N.J./Academy of the Holy Angels), 5-foot-10-inch outside hitter Samantha Rosario (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst), 6-foot-3-inch middle blocker Sara Shannon (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park and River Forest) and 6-foot-1-inch outside hitter Kara Bates (Bradley, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais Community). All four signees are expected to make an immediate impact on the program.
"This is an exciting time for Maryland volleyball. We have a growing program that receives great support from the administration and community," Ores said. "I feel privileged to have the opportunity to recruit the best student-athletes in the country. I want to thank coach Horsmon for his support and guidance over the last six years. I've really enjoyed working with coach Horsmon and Jason Oliver for the past five years. We have been very successful as a group and our goal is to continue to win championships.
"We have the ability to recruit high-level players to a beautiful campus that offers an elite education. We are working toward being one of the best programs in the country. With our players and recruits seeing that vision, Terrapin volleyball will accomplish many seasons of success and championships."
Ores graduated from Xavier in 2001 with a degree in sports management and was a two-time team captain for the Musketeers.
