Women's Golf Set to Open ACC Championships

April 14, 2009

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's golf team will open play at the ACC Championships on Friday when they are part of the first groups to tee off at 8:30 a.m. at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. The Terrapins, whose top five players will be paired with the top fives of Miami and Boston College, will be looking for their first ACC title. Fans can follow the action over the weekend on ACC Select.

Maryland will be led by freshman Jessica Hollandsworth, who has three top-10 finishes this spring including a fifth-place finish at the John Kirk Lady Panther Intercollegiate. Hollandsworth has finished in the top ten in each of her last three tournaments, including a tie for tenth in the Terps' most recent event, the Canes & Cardinal Classic.

Along with Hollandsworth, Maryland boasts sophomore Hilary Lawson and freshman Alexis Holmes, who each have rounds under par to their credit this season.

In nine previous appearances, the Terrapins have yet to finish above fourth (2005) at the ACC Championships. This year's team will be looking to improve upon that.

Fans can follow the Terps on ACC Select over the weekend. On Saturday, coverage will be available from 1-3 p.m. by clicking here. On Sunday, coverage will be available at the same times by following this link.
