
Maryland Earns No. 3 Seed in CWPA Eastern Championship

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. - By virtue of its victory in last weekend's division championship, the University of Maryland water polo team has secured the No. 3 seed in the eight-team CWPA Eastern Championship, the league office announced Monday.
The Terps (14-12, 7-1 CWPA Southern Division) will face No. 6 seed Bucknell (18-14) at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Harvard's Blodgett Pool in Cambridge, Mass.
Hartwick College earned the top seed, while No. 12-ranked Michigan was tapped the No. 2 seed.
The Terps, who captured the CWPA Southern Division Championship Saturday with wins over George Washington and Princeton, will face the winner of the Michigan-Princeton game at 5:30 p.m. Saturday should they advance past Bucknell.
Maryland defeated the Bison, 13-9, on Feb. 15 at home, but was upended by Bucknell, 15-9 in overtime, in Lewisburg, Pa. (April 4).
The Eastern Championship continues through Sunday with the winner earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship which is scheduled for May 8-10 in College Park, Md.

In other news, freshman Elina Goldenberg scored six goals, including a game-high five in Saturday's title game, to earn the Southern Division Player and Rookie of the Week awards.
The award marks Goldenberg's third rookie of the week honor and second player of the week nod. She was honored on Feb. 16 and March 30 with the first-year award and March 2 as the division's outstanding player.
