GAINESVILLE, Fla. -
Jessica Hollandsworth saved her best for last, but it was not quite good enough as her even-par round of 70 left her a stroke out of a tie for eighth place at the NCAA East Regional, which would have allowed her to advance to the NCAA Championships later this month. Hollandsworth, who finished the weekend with a seven-over par 76-71-70--217, finished in a tie for 11th place overall.
The top-finishing Terrapin at each event for Maryland this spring, the freshman was the only Terp invited to the NCAA Regional round. At the Mark Bostick Golf Course at the University of Florida, Hollandsworth improved each time around the loop, but her final round even-par was just shy of what she needed to advance.
As the only Terrapin, Hollandsworth finished tops amongst the three golfers invited to the East Regional as individuals. The other 105 competitors all arrived thanks to the achievements of their teams.
Hollandsworth also finished as the second-best scoring ACC player at the Regional. Whitney Neuhauser of Virginia was a stroke better on the weekend, shooting a combined 216.
Dawn Shockley of Denver University fired a 66, the best round by any competitor on the weekend, to claim the individual crown with a combined one-under weekend.
