Volleyball Adds Taylor Jones to Recruiting Class

May 2, 2009

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland volleyball program has announced the addition of setter Taylor Jones to its 2009 recruiting class.

Jones, who hails from New Bremen High School in New Bremen, Ohio, joins Remy McBain (Leonia, N.J./Academy of The Holy Angels), Samantha Rosario (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst), Sara Shannon (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park and River Forest) and Kara Bates (Bradley, Ill./Bradley Bourbonnais Community) in the incoming crop of recruits.

"We are excited to get Taylor in a Maryland uniform. Taylor actually came to our camp at the University of Dayton when she was 12 and we knew she was going to be a great college volleyball player," Maryland head coach Tim Horsmon said. "In addition to being a special athlete, Taylor comes from a great family and understands what commitment and hard work means.

"Taylor could play several different positions for us due to her athleticism and understanding of the game, but I think will compete right away at the setting position. We will continue to bring in athletes that will physically be able to compete with the best in the country, but also do so with character."

Jones was a three-time first-team Midwest Athletic Conference performer and two-time first-team all-district player. As a senior, Jones was named team most valuable player and the District 8 player of the year, as well as first-team all-Ohio.

A four-year player on the volleyball team, Jones also earned three letters in basketball and four in track.
