Ashley Williams earned an invitation to the NCAA East Regional in late-May with her performance Saturday at the Mason Outdoor Invitational track and field meet hosted by George Mason University.
Williams had a mark of 47 feet, 8 inches to hit the NCAA regional standard and finish second in the meet. Her mark improved her season-best by more than a foot. Cleopatra Borel-Brown, an Olympian from Trinidad & Tobago, won the event at 60-5.25.
Also on Saturday, junior Christina Nelson posted her lifetime best in the 800 meters, going 2:11.61 to finish second and move into eighth on Maryland's all-time list. Alexis Booker also picked up a season-best with an ECAC-qualifying time of 12.09 in a preliminary heat. She won the women's 100 final in 12.14.
Tolu Olugbemi also earned a career-best mark of 55.89 in the women's 400. She cut more than a second off her collegiate-best mark and earned a trip to the ECAC meet in Princeton on May 15-17.
On the men's side, David Edwards-Brennan won the high jump at 6-6.75, while Legonn Haskins earned Maryland's best mark of the season by winning the 110 hurdles in 14.31. He missed the NCAA regional standard by 0.01 seconds.
The Terrapins will host the Maryland Twilight Meet on Thursday evening, with the hammer throw beginning at 5 p.m.
