POSITION VACANCY
POSITION TITLE: Assistant Coach - Track & Field/Cross Country
DEPARTMENT: Intercollegiate Athletics
CATEGORY: Non-tenured Faculty (100126)
UNIVERSITY: The University of Maryland is among the most comprehensive and successful athletic programs in the United States with 27 sports and an annual expense budget of approximately $55 million. The University is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities and is located on a beautiful campus located eight miles north of the nation's capital and near Columbia, Maryland, which was recently listed as the #4 "Best Place to Live" by Money Magazine. The Athletic Program has won 18 national championships over the last 15 years and is a charter member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Currently, 92 of the University's academic programs are ranked in their respective Top 25 nationally.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist the head coach with the organization, development and implementation of a competitive, Division I men's and women's indoor/outdoor track and cross country programs. Responsibilities will include recruiting, coaching, coordinating team travel, practice and game scheduling, and assisting with the administration of team budgets. Develop and maintain effective interaction with students, colleagues, university staff, alumni and the general public. Knowledge of and commitment to compliance with all NCAA, ACC and University rules and regulations as well as dedication to full academic development of student-athletes are essential. Other duties as assigned by the Head Coach and/or the Director of Athletics.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree required. At least 3-5 years of coaching experience in track, preferably at the Division I collegiate level. Expertise in the area of long distance and cross country events preferred. Must have knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations. Strong communication and organizational skills.
SALARY: Commensurate with experience
