CAPE COD, Mass. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced that the 2010 Women's ECAC Water Polo Championship will be held on February 27-28 on the campus of Princeton University.
The championship, which features eight teams teams selected from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA), could feature several teams which did not compete in 2009 as the 2010 Elite Eight Tournament, which was hosted on the same weekend as ECACs this year and featured some of the CWPA's best teams, will be held on March 6-7 at Indiana University.
Last year, Hartwick College, Harvard University, University of Maryland, Princeton University and Bucknell University elected to compete at the then Elite Six Tournament.
In 2010, Princeton University, Bucknell University, Harvard University and University of Maryland have agreed to compete at the ECAC Championship, along with Marist College and Iona College of the MAAC. The remaining two spots in the eight-team field will be decided from among the available CWPA and MAAC squads later this summer via a conference call.
Overall, eight CWPA institutions (Chatham University, Connecticut College, Gannon University, George Washington University, Grove City College, Mercyhurst College, Penn State University Erie-Behrend College, Utica College) and three MAAC programs (Wagner College, St. Francis College, Villanova University) will vie for the final spots in the championship field as Hartwick College, Brown University and Siena College have elected not to compete/are unavailable on February 27-28, while University of Michigan and Indiana University are not members of the ECAC.
