COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland head coach Brian Pensky today released the women's soccer schedule for the 2009 season. The Terps will go against 10 teams that competed in last season's NCAA championships, including 2008 national champion North Carolina.
"This is a terrific schedule," says Maryland head coach Brian Pensky, who is in his fifth season at the helm of the Terrapin program. "In addition to our ACC slate, we have a nice blend of traditional powers, consistent tournament teams and a host of programs knocking on the door of the NCAA tournament."
After preseason scrimmages against St. John's and West Virginia, which was also a 2008 tournament team, the Terps open the 2009 season with two road games in New York. A trip to West Point to play Army on Aug. 21 is followed up with a match at Fordham on Aug. 23.
Maryland then returns to College Park for three straight home games at Ludwig Field against Seton Hall (Aug. 28), Loyola (Sept. 1) and Santa Clara (Sept. 4). After a road game at American (Sept. 9), the Terps wrap-up its non-conference slate with home games with James Madison (Sept. 13) and Brown (18).
The ACC schedule kicks off with a trip to the Sunshine State and games at Florida State (Sept. 24) and Miami (Sept. 27). The conference road swing continues with games at Duke (Oct. 4) and Virginia (Oct. 8).
From there Maryland returns home for three games in College Park. The Terps host Virginia Tech (Oct. 11), Boston College (Oct. 15) and NC State (Oct. 18) over the eight-day home stand.
The Terps play their final regular season road game at Clemson (Oct. 22) before coming back to College Park with seven days off before finishing the season with games against Wake Forest (Oct. 29) and North Carolina (Nov. 1).
The ACC Tournament will be held on Nov. 4-8 in Cary, N.C., at WakeMed Soccer Park. The 2009 NCAA Tournament will begin on Nov. 13 with the first three rounds being held at campus sites. The 2009 College Cup is being hosted by NC State at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. The semifinals are set for December 4, with the finals taking place on Dec. 6.
