Field Hockey to Hold Intrasquad Scrimmage on Thursday

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland field hockey team, just over a week away from the start of the 2009 campaign, will play its Red-White intrasquad scrimmage on Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
The Terrapins return 13 letterwinners and seven starters from last season's national championship-winning squad, Maryland's third NCAA crown in the last four years and sixth overall. Among the returning players are three 2008 All-Americans (Katie O'Donnell, Brianna Davies, Alicia Grater) and 2006 All-American Nicole Muracco.
Head coach Missy Meharg, entering her 22nd season at Maryland, also signed nine highly-touted freshmen to the roster. The reigning national and Atlantic Coast Conference champs will have a strong mix of rookies and veterans in 2009.
The Terps will open the regular season on Aug. 28 in Evanston, Ill., versus Ohio as part of Northwestern's Wildcat Classic.
