COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
The top-ranked Maryland field hockey team will host No. 3 Wake Forest Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in a battle between two of the nation's perennial field hockey powers.
This game is a rematch of the ACC championship game and the NCAA Championship game last year. Most notably, the Terps claimed the national championship crown last November in a hard-fought 4-2 win over the Demon Deacons.
Heading into Saturday's clash, the Terrapins are 9-0 and 1-0 in ACC play, while Wake Forest is 6-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference as well.
CLASSIC RIVALRY
The Terps own the all-time record over the Demon Deacons with a 22-11 advantage. They last lost to Wake Forest in 2007. The Terps' won 4-2 at Wake Forest on Sept. 27 last year in the annual regular season match-up. In the ACC Championship game in November, Maryland won 4-3.
PARKING ADVISORY
All fans planning to attend Saturday's match-up should be advised parking is only free prior to 9:30 a.m. in lot 4i, the lot directly next to the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. After 9:30 a.m., all fans will be charged $15 due to the home football game.
POWER PENALTY CORNERS
So far, the Terrapins have had the upper-hand over their opponents when it comes to penalty corners. Coming into Saturday's game, the Terps had 79 penalty corner opportunities to their opponents' 48. Wake Forest has taken 43 penalty corners on the year.
SUPER SHOOTERS
The Terps' shot percentage on the year is an impressive .314 and their shots on goal percentage is .669. Their opponents' is just .159. The Demon Deacons are currently shooting .207 and their SOG percentage is .658.
ACColades
Three Terps have been awarded the ACC's Player of the Week honor in 2009. Junior Katie O'Donnell won the award for the week of Sept. 7, senior Nicole Muracco won for the week of Sept. 14, and freshman Janessa Pope recently earned the co-ACC Player of the Week award for this current week. She shares the honor with No. 2 North Carolina's Danielle Forword.
