
Shimel Leads Terps at Lady Pirate Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Sophomore Christine Shimel shot scores of 71 and 72 in the first two rounds to lead the University of Maryland women's golf team to first-place after day one at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate, hosted by East Carolina University.
Shimel was followed by junior Jessica Hollandsworth and sophomore Hayley Brown, all of whom finished in the top-20. Hollandsworth is currently tied for sixth with a 3-over-par 145 and Brown is tied for 13th at 148.
Faith Hardison of East Carolina leads all individuals for first place with a one-under score of 141.
Senior Kerri Connolly ended the first two rounds tied for 25th at 150. Junior Lauren Varnas sued scores of 76 and 77 to end Monday tied for 41st while senior Hilary Lawson is tied for 62nd with a card of 162.
As a team, the Terrapins are in first place with an overall score of 586. The Penn Quakers trail the Terps by three strokes for second place, followed by Augusta State and the host Pirates tied for third at 592.
The final round of the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate will be held Tuesday, starting at 8:30 a.m.
