The Maryland field hockey team will play host to No. 1 North Carolina Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
The Terrapins (15-1, 4-0 ACC) have won 15 of their last 16 games heading into the matchup, while the Tar Heels (16-0, 4-0 ACC) are the nation's only undefeated team.
The two teams met last November in the NCAA championship game in Winston-Salem, N.C. Tied at two late in the game, the Tar Heels scored in the game's final 70 seconds to secure their sixth national title. The Terrapins also have six national titles, winning in 1987, 1993, 1999, 2005, 2006 and 2008.
The winner of Saturday's game will clinch the top seed in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament Nov. 4-7.
Senior Katie O'Donnell currently has 97 career assists. Only two players in NCAA history, Jill Reeve (Old Dominion `88-92) and Winnifred Sanders (Old Dominion `87-'90), have broken the 100-assist mark. They have 139 and 129, respectively.
The Terrapins have played 10 games against ranked opponents this year. Coming into Saturday's game, seven of their last eight games have been against opponents in the top 20.
