
O'Donnell Tabbed ACC Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Senior Katie O'Donnell of the Maryland field hockey team (10-1, 3-0 ACC), ranked No. 2 in the latest Kookaburra / NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll, earned the Atlantic Coast Conference's Player of the Week honor the league announced Tuesday. This is the third consecutive week a Terrapin has earned the award and second time this year O'Donnell was the league's top performer.
At No. 3 Virginia Friday, the Cavaliers took an early 1-0 lead in the sixth minute. Buckley tied the game in the 26th minute on a corner setup from O'Donnell and sophomore Harriet Tibble. O'Donnell scored the game-clincher in fourth minute of overtime off of a backdoor pass from junior Jemma Buckley on a penalty corner.
Maryland opened the week at No. 4 Princeton last Tuesday. The Terps lost 4-2 to the Tigers, but O'Donnell scored their first goal on a high shot and assisted to Buckley on the second.
The Terrapins closed the week with a 4-3 win at No. 19 Michigan Sunday. O'Donnell scored off of a turnover 12 seconds into the game and finished with the sixth hat trick of her career.
She has 77 career goals, just eight away from the Maryland career record. Her 88 career assists and 242 career points are both ACC records. She is No. 3 on the NCAA career assists list and No. 7 in career points.
Freshman Jill Witmer was named ACC Player of the Week the last two weeks. O'Donnell earned the honor on Aug. 31. A Terrapin has been honored in four out of the six weeks it has been given this season.
The Terrapins return home this week for two games this weekend. They will play host to No. 14 Duke Saturday at 1 p.m. and Pacific Sunday at noon. Both games will be played at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in College Park and will be broadcast live on WMUCSport.com. Gametracker live stats will be available.
