
Shimel Leads Terps to Fourth

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Sophomore Christine Shimel and the University of Maryland women's golf team wrapped up their fall season with a fourth-place finish Tuesday at the 33rd Annual Pat Bradley Invitational, hosted by Florida International in Fort Myers, Fla.
Shimel's team-best 72 on Tuesday helped her maintain a tie for fourth place individually with a three-day score of 217. Junior Jessica Hollandsworth used three consecutive 73's to finish tied for ninth at 219 while Hayley Brown finished Maryland's final fall event at 228, tied for 26th. Seniors Kerri Connolly and Hilary Lawson both finished at 231 and tied for 37th.
Ericka Schneider of Daytona State College won the individual title thanks to a surge in the third round in which she shot off a tournament-low 68 to give her 210 overall.
As a team, Maryland shot 890 over three rounds and locked up its third top-five finish of the season. The Terps won the Lady Pirate Invitational on Oct. 12 and placed third at the UNCG Starmount Fall Classic on Sep. 28.
North Texas University claimed the team title with an overall score of 876, thanks to Chandra Alexander's tied-for-second finish and three others in the top-20. Daytona State finished just one stroke behind and Western Michigan earned third with a final score of 887.
