COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Four members of the national champion Maryland field hockey team were named All-Americans Monday by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. Senior Katie O'Donnell and sophomore Megan Frazer were named First Team All-Americans. Freshman Jill Witmer was named to the Second Team, while junior Jemma Buckley was named to the Third Team.
O'Donnell is a four-time First Team All-American. The only other Terrapin to earn First Team honors all four years was Paula Infante in 2003-2006. O'Donnell is the first player in NCAA history to break the 100-assist and 300-point marks. She ended her collegiate career with 108 assists, 99 goals and 306 points.
Frazer scored the game-winning goal in Sunday's national championship game in double overtime. This is her first All-American honor, but she was named All-Mid Atlantic Region and All-ACC earlier this fall. Frazer was also named to the NCAA All-Tournament team.
Witmer is the 2010 ACC Freshman of the Year, an All-Mid Atlantic Region team member and All-ACC player. She ended the year fifth in the ACC in goals with 17 on the year.
Buckley was also named to the All-ACC team and the All-Mid Atlantic Region team. She ended the season third in the ACC in goals with 22, giving her an average of just under one per game.
O'Donnell was also named National Player of the Year and Offensive MVP by womensfieldhockey.com. Frazer, Buckley and sophomore Harriet Tibble earned spots on womensfieldhockey.com's All-American Second Team. Witmer was named to the Third Team and the All-Rookie team. Ali McEvoy made the All-Rookie team as well.
The Terrapins won their seventh national title and fourth in six years Sunday (2005, 2006, 2008, 2010). Either Maryland or North Carolina has won the last six titles. The Terps won the crown in front of 2,381 fans at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex - the largest crowd in NCAA field hockey history.
