COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Katie O'Donnell of the national champion Maryland field hockey team has been selected as the 2010 NFHCA Division I National Player of the Year. She was also named a nominee for the 2010 Honda Sports Award Tuesday. O'Donnell won the 2009 Honda Sports Award.

O'Donnell was also named National Player of the Year and Offensive MVP by womensfieldhockey.com.

O'Donnell led the nation in assists per game in 2010 with an average of 1.33 as well as in points per game with an average of 4.08. She is the only player in NCAA history to break the 100 career assist and the 300 career point marks. O'Donnell notched a goal and an assist in 17 of Maryland's 24 games this season and had seven games in which she recorded three or more assists. She netted her seventh career hat trick in the NCAA Semifinal game versus Ohio State on November 19th and she is the only player to record hat tricks in two NCAA Semifinal games.

The 2009 Honda Award recipient is the ACC's career points and assists leader and leaves Maryland just three goals away from the career goals record. She ends her career at Maryland second in the ACC in all-time goals with 99. A member of two NCAA Championship teams, O'Donnell was named to the All-Tournament team in 2010. She is a four-time First Team All-American (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010) and a four-time ACC Offensive Player of the Year recipient. She is the only player to win ACC Player of the Year honors in all four years of her career.

Earlier this fall, O'Donnell was named the Women's Sports Foundation's Sportswoman of the Year, an award previously won by Mia Hamm and Lisa Leslie.

Other nominees for the 2010 Honda Sports Award include Connecticut's Melissa Gonzalez, Virginia's Paige Selenski, and Princeton's Kathleen Sharkey.

The Terrapins won their seventh national title and fourth in six years Sunday (2005, 2006, 2008, 2010). Either Maryland or North Carolina has won the last six titles. The Terps won the crown in front of 2,381 fans at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex - the largest crowd in NCAA field hockey history.
