GREENSBORO, N.C. - Maryland freshman and outside hitter Mary Cushman (Rochester, N.Y.) was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference All-Freshman Team when the league released its all-conference teams on Wednesday.
Cushman becomes the first Terrapin to earn ACC All-Freshman honors since Michelle Kenning in 2007.
The former New York Gatorade Player of the Year, Cushman led Maryland with 343 kills in her freshman season. Cushman also finished second on the team with a .259 attack percentage, behind junior Lisa Scott's .338 average.
Playing in all 32 games in 2010, Cushman provided a strong presence on the outside. The West Irondequoit High School graduate, Cushman recorded double-digit kill totals in 22 games and set a career-high with 18 kills in Maryland's Oct. 17 upset of then-No. 22 Florida State.
Cushman finished her first year as a Terp tied for third-most blocks with 63 and came on strong as of late, recording 16 in her final seven games.
Duke junior setter Kellie Catanach earned ACC Player of the Year honors while Virginia right side McKenzie Adams was named Freshman of the Year.
