COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland head coach Tim Horsmon announced today that Catie Coyle, Ashleigh Crutcher and Adrenee' Elliott have signed National Letters-of-Intent to attend the University of Maryland in the fall of 2011.
"We bring in a great deal of athleticism. I think all three are going to be impact players down the road," said Horsmon. "All three have huge ceilings and are going to improve in their four years here."
Coyle (Tucson, Az.), a middle blocker recently named to the Arizona Republic 5A All-State Second Team, plays for VBC Dinamo. Coyle also earned a spot on the 2010 Fall All-Southern Volleyball First Team and played on the Junior Olympic squad which earned a silver medal in 2009. A senior at Salpointe Catholic, Coyle has been a member of the National Honors Society since 2009.
"Catie Coyle is a really long, athletic player," said Horsmon. "As she gets stronger, she is going to be a force at the net as well. She's probably going to come in at the middle. She has a great attitude and is a great student."
Crutcher (Cary, N.C.), an outside hitter/middle blocker and 2010-11 Under Armour Honorable Mention All-American, plays for Triangle VC. Crutcher was also recently selected to play in the NCISAA East vs. West Game and earned MVP honors in the TISAC Conference Tournament. A senior at Cary Academy, Crutcher studied abroad in Costa Rica in May and has maintained academic honors since 2008.
"Ashleigh Crutcher transitioned in a new position this last year," said Horsmon. "She is still figuring that position out at outside hitter but she's definitely going to make an impact and contribute to this team."
Elliott (Winston-Salem, N.C.),a middle blocker named to the Under Armour Second Team All-America squad plays for Mt. Tabor High School where she was recently named the Co-Conference Player of the Year. Elliott also earned NCHSAA Scholar-Athlete honors for her performance in the classroom.
"Adrenee' is incredibly athletic and long. She can touch over 10 feet," said Horsmon. "She should be an impact player and is probably one of the quickest kids I've seen from pin to pin. She works very hard and has a great attitude."
With the addition of such promising recruits, Maryland's 2011 squad, which features an already steady mix of talent, will be one to watch in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
"These girls were recruited by some great programs," said Horsmon. "We're really fortunate that they wanted to be here and continue the success of this program and turn it around to become a top-25 team."
