COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
The University of Maryland wrestling team begins its 2010-11 season Saturday at home at the Terrapin Duals, where it will look to build off of last season's success, which included an undefeated record in ACC matches and a second consecutive top-20 finish at the NCAA Championships.
"I'm excited that the season is officially here," said head coach Kerry McCoy. "Now we're finally officially competing against other schools. It's a great way to start the season because we have four duals, four teams with varying levels of success from each program. I'm just excited to see the variety that we're bringing in and see how our guys do against them. We just have to go out there...the time for talk is over."
Despite losing All-Americans Hudson Taylor and Steve Bell, the Terps return a squad with five starters ranked within the top-35 in various polls including No. 5 Mike Letts (174), No. 5 Josh Asper (165), No. 10 Kyle John (157), No. 25 Corey Peltier (184) and No. 32 Jon Kohler (141).
At the Terrapin Duals, which begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, No. 36 Maryland will host Johns Hopkins, Liberty McDaniel and No. 45 West Virginia.
Maryland will also send wrestlers to the 2nd Annual Knight Point Clarion Open, held in Pittsburgh, Pa.
