Maryland Nabs No. 1 Seed in NCAAs

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland field hockey team will get to play at home in College Park for the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament this weekend. The ACC Champion Terps (19-1) will play host to UMass in the opening round.
"We're just honored. It's a new team, it's a new staff," head coach Missy Meharg said. "It's a great field of teams and we're just really excited to be at home here in College Park."
The Terrapins and the Minutewomen will take the field Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Both American and Connecticut will come to College Park for the First Round and will play at 2 p.m. The two teams that win on Saturday will face off at 2 p.m. Sunday.
This marks Maryland's 23rd appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Terps have an all-time record in the Tournament of 43-16 and have won six titles, five under head coach Missy Meharg. The Terrapins have won 11 straight first round games, dating back to 1998 when byes were awarded for first round games.
Maryland beat UMass 3-0 earlier this year in College Park. The Minutewomen won the Atlantic 10 conference this year, but fell to Stanford Tuesday in the NCAA play-in game.
Tickets for this weekend are $5 for adults and $3 for students. Fans can purchase tickets by visiting the Terrapin Ticket Office online at umterps.com or by calling 1-800-IM-A-TERP.
Maryland will also be hosting the NCAA Semifinals on Nov. 19 and the Finals on Nov. 21. The Semifinal games will be played at 2:00 and 4:30 p.m. The championship game will be played at noon.
All of the Terrapins' games this weekend will be broadcast live on TerpsTV and will be free for fans to watch. The games will also be broadcast on WMUCSports.com.
