COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland field hockey team celebrated its 2010 national championship season Sunday with a banquet to honor team members, coaches and special moments throughout the year.

The coaching staff honored five Terps with end of the year awards. Two-time Honda Sports Award winner senior Katie O'Donnell was awarded the Kate Kauffman-Beach Award, an honor that goes to a player epitomizes the "world class" hockey player that demonstrates the technical and tactical skills coupled with the heart of a champion.

Senior Amanda Himmelheber received the Sabrina Salam Award, an honor given to an upper classman that demonstrates an elite level of quality of life academically, socially, athletically and spiritually while exemplifying a championship lifestyle.

The Kateri Simon Award is the team's Unsung Hero honor. Senior Alicia Morawski was named the winner as the athlete that has persevered in times of adversity and has displayed courage while bringing positive energy to all team sessions. She contributed daily to the successes as a championship team.

Sophomore Harriet Tibble received the Carla Tagliente Award, the honor given to the student-athlete that displays excellence on the field and in the classroom.

Sophomore Megan Frazer was honored with the Keli Smith Award. She was the player who was the team's 'straight shooter'. She was named as the player that wears her emotions on her sleeve and sets her sights on achieving the high level goals she sets for herself.

Members of the team were honored with their Varsity letters for their performances this season and the seniors were granted their membership to the M Club.

Earlier this fall, four Terrapins were named All-Americans. O'Donnell and Frazer were named to the first team, while freshman Jill Witmer was named to the second team and junior Jemma Buckley earned a spot on the third team.

O'Donnell was named the National Player of the Year and Offensive MVP by womensfieldhockey.com. Frazer, Buckley and Tibble were named to womensfieldhockey.com's All-American second team. Witmer made the third team, as well as the All-Rookie team. Ali McEvoy made the All-Rookie team as well.

The Terrapins won their seventh national title and fourth in six years November 21 (2005, 2006, 2008, 2010) when they beat No. 2 North Carolina 3-2 in double overtime in College Park. Either Maryland or North Carolina has won the last six titles. The Terps won the crown in front of 2,381 fans at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex - the largest crowd in NCAA field hockey history.
