Currently, 78 of the University's academic programs are in their respective Top 25 nationally.
JOB DESCRIPTION: The University of Maryland Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is seeking an experienced Chief of Staff, Executive Senior Associate Director of Athletics with expertise in strategic planning and assessment of Intercollegiate Athletic Program. This individual will serve as Chief Operating Officer, day-to-day, with several senior staff reporting to him/her. Individuals with experience as director of Athletics are encouraged to apply, as well as senior-level athletics administrators who have previously or currently serve in the role as Chief Operating Officer. The ability to move with alacrity and wisdom, while modeling an excellent work ethic, along with senior-level supervisory skills and passion for the success of Maryland Athletics. Must possess an in-depth understanding of the dynamics and complexity of NCAA, Division I intercollegiate athletics with regard to internal operations as well as the numerous external stakeholders and publics.
Duties include providing expertise in the developing, implementing and assessing the Intercollegiate Athletic Program's strategic plan to include outlining short-term and long-term strategic goals and objectives. Provide expertise in identifying methodologies for implementing and measuring achievements against strategic goals and objectives. Monitor and report trends in Intercollegiate Athletics. Provide assessments for department internal use of coaching performances. Provide overall assessments of the department's athletic programs to include individual assessments for each sport. Provide assessments for department internal use on problems of discipline concerning athletics. Develop objectives and implementation plans for Athletic Award Programs. Develop objectives and implementation plans for athletic facility improvements covering ten years into the future. Participate in athletic events and attend state, regional and national meetings. Establish business plans that address goals, financials and implementation strategies for new athletic department initiatives and business ventures. Assist in fundraising efforts by seeking out and establishing partnership opportunities with institutional representatives and organizations that can provide financial benefit to the Intercollegiate Athletic Program. Assist in finding advertising sponsors to cover costs for sports events (i.e., printing of programs, team travel, event advertising, etc.). Assist in promoting the athletic program to patrons and development of fundraising strategies to maximize net profit margins and donations to Maryland Intercollegiate Athletic Programs. Provide a draft of the Intercollegiate Athletic Program's strategic plan within 120 days. Provide quarterly updates to strategic plan and quarterly assessments of achievements against strategic goals and objectives. Provide a monthly athletic program assessment reports for each sport. Provide business plans that include executive summary, goals, financials and implementation strategies to support new athletic program initiatives. Provide a quarterly contact list of potential partners and patrons of Maryland Athletics Program. Provide a proposal for an Awards program that includes executive summary, goals, financials and implementation strategies. Provide a 10-year Athletic Facility Improvement Plan that includes executive summary, goals, financial and implementation strategies. Provide quarterly status of fundraising initiatives and associate financial benefits received. Provide bi-annual update of fundraising strategies.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree required, Masters preferred. Must be knowledgeable of NCAA rules, standards, practices and procedures and possess strong interpersonal/communication skills. Must have at least 5 years Division I Intercollegiate Athletic experience.
SALARY: Competitive and commensurate with experience.
