Great Scott: Da'Rel Scott had another stellar bowl-game performance, rushing for 200 yards on 13 carries. His 91-yard TD run in the fourth quarter was the longest in Maryland bowl-game history, the longest for a Maryland TD in seven years (80 by Bruce Perry vs. Wake Forest, 11/28/03) and only the eighth 90-plus yard run in ACC history. It was the eighth 100-yard rushing game of Scott's career, who finished seventh on Maryland's career rushing yards list (2,401). His 200 yards rushing is a Maryland bowl game record, breaking his own mark of 174 vs. Nevada in the 2008 Humanitarian Bowl. The yardage total also ranks second in ACC bowl history (307 by P.J. Daniels of Georgia Tech, 1/4/04). Scott is the first Maryland player to top 200 yards on the ground since Bruce Perry had 237 against Wake Forest on 11/29/03 and the 16th player in school history to accomplish the feat. In addition, he set the school record for yards per carry in the game (15.4), besting Willie Joyner (15.0 vs. UNC in 1982). Scott earned game MVP honors in the both the 2008 Roady's Humanitarian Bowl and the 2010 Military Bowl.
Adams Again: D.J. Adams found the end zone four times and finished the season with 11 touchdowns, the most rushing TDs on the team. That's the most rushing TDs by a Maryland running back since 2007, when Keon Lattimore had 13 and Lance Ball had 12. It was Adams' second game with at least three touchdowns (also vs. Virginia, Nov. 13). He is also the first Maryland RB with two 3-TD games since Chris Downs in 2002. It also set a Maryland bowl game record.
More from Meggett: Davin Meggett ran for 62 yards, including a 44 yarder, and moved into Maryland's career top 20 list. The junior has 1,515 yards in his career. He finished the season as Maryland's leading rusher with 720 yards. Meggett also caught two passes for 52 yards, including a season-best 31-yarder.
O'Brien on ACC Chart: QB Danny O'Brien threw for 181 yards and ended the year with 2,438 yards which is seventh in ACC history among freshmen and 10th on the Maryland single-season list. He threw an uncharacteristic two interceptions, marking the first time this season he tossed a pick in a victory. In his six previous wins as a starter, O'Brien had 16 TD passes and no interceptions. His 22 TD passes are second on the Maryland single-season chart.
Fridge's Career: In 10 seasons at the helm of his alma mater, head coach Ralph Friedgen went 75-50 (.600), won two ACC Coach of the Year Awards (2001, 2010) and led the team to a school record five bowl victories. His victory total ranks third in Maryland history and his winning percentage ranks fourth. He is one of only 13 head coaches in ACC history to amass 70 career wins and he is 10th in ACC history in all-time overall wins.
Dorsey Emerges: Kevin Dorsey hauled in a 45-yard touchdown pass from Danny O'Brien on Maryland's second possession of the game, the longest reception of his career. The sophomore has two catches for 50 yards and has posted at least two receptions in six of the last eight games.
Interceptions: Eric Franklin picked off ECU QB Dominque Davis in the first quarter, his second INT this season and David Mackall made the first interception of his career on the first drive of the second half. As a team, Maryland has 19 interceptions this season, the most since they had 24 in 2001.
Long Plays: The Terps had two plays over 40 yards in the first half - Kevin Dorsey's 45-yard TD reception and Davin Meggett's 44-yard run. Da'Rel Scott also had a 61-yard TD run in the third quarter and a 91-yarder in the fourth. Maryland's offense has scored on 11 plays of 40 yards or longer this year.
100 for Tate: With six tackles against East Carolina, Kenny Tate reached 100 on the season, becoming the first Maryland DB to do so since Tony Jackson had 101 in 2000.
Pass Breakups: Maryland had seven pass breakups and finished the season with 58. In comparison, the Terps had just 29 in 2009.
Smith Ends Maryland Career: Torrey Smith had a relatively quiet day, posting two receptions for 10 yards and returning three kickoffs for 74 yards. Smith, who announced at the conclusion of the game he would enter the 2011 NFL Draft, ends his career with 152 receptions (No. 3 in Maryland history), 2,215 receiving yards (No. 2 in school history) and 19 touchdowns (No. 2 in Terp history). Smith also had an ACC-record 2,983 kickoff return yards and 5,264 all-purpose yards which is seventh on the league's career chart.
Tidbits: Alex Wujciak made his 38th consecutive start and Paul Pinegar made his 25th straight, best on defense and offense respectively ... Maryland stopped ECU on two of its three attempts to convert on fourth down ... the Terps had 8.0 tackles for loss and forced four turnovers ... Maryland forced 29 turnovers on the season and induced at least two in all but one game (vs. Clemson) ... Tony Logan, known for his prowess as a punt returner, made the first reception of his career ... DE Bradley Johnson made his first career start, subbing for Drew Gloster ... Eric Franklin made his second career start (also vs. Clemson, 10/16/10), as the Terps began the game with three safeties ... LB Demetrius Hartsfield matched a career high with 13 tackles (also vs. FIU, 9/25/10) ... LB Adrian Moten had the first fumble recovery of his career and DB Austin Walker registered the first sack of his career.
