
Women's Track Takes First

NEW YORK, NY. - The women's track field team took first place honors at the Virginia Duals held in New York, NY. this weekend. The men's team also turned in a solid effort.
Junior Kiani Profit made Maryland history with her first place finish in the 60-meter hurdles. With a blistering time of 8.49, Profit ties Kierra Foster for the fastest 60-meter hurdles mark in school history.
Profit also placed first in the long jump with a mark of 19-04.75. Ashley Hendrix placed third at 19-0 and Tiffani Long placed seventh at 18-04.5.
Profit missed out on a perfect day by one hundredth of a second, finishing in second place in the 400 with a mark of 54.21, which is the second fastest time in Maryland history.
DeAnna Brown earned first place in the 60 with a time of 7.53, which is the fourth-best mark in school history. Brown also placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.79, while Alexis Booker, Melony McKay and Heidi Paul placed fourth, fifth and eighth respectively. Brown, Booker and McKay all qualified for the ECACs in the 200.
Taylor Bumpas and Christina Nelson provided the Terrapins with some much needed points with third and fourth place finishes in the 800-meter run.
Julie Fricke continued her success in the mile run with a third place finish at 4:54.47, which is the eighth-best mark in school history. Ashley Cromartie and Erin Matyus followed in eighth and eleventh. Ashley Hendrix and Christina Nelson joined Fricke and Matyus in the distance medley relay, in which the team earned third place with a mark of 12:03.37.
In the field, Moriah Young and Kristen Batts continued their domination in the 20-pound weight throw. The duo took first and second place honors, with throws of 53-08.25 and 53-02.75 respectively. The throw was Young's best of the season.
For the men, Maryland fullback Da'Rel Scott was first to scamper across the finish line in the 60 with a mark of 6.87, which is the second fastest time in school history. Jarenn Stewart followed in second at 6.89, with Dareem David and Floyd Hawkes earning sixth and tenth. Stewart also placed second in the long jump.
Newcomer Greg Jubb turned in a solid effort in the 800, earning sixth place and the third-best mark in Maryland history at 1:52.11. Tommy Friscia and Max Bruno placed eighth and twelfth.
In the mile run, Greg Kelsey represented Maryland with a third place finish at 4:07.14, which qualifies the senior for the IC4As and moves him into seventh all-time at Maryland. Kyle Gaffney also earned IC4A qualification with his mile time of 4:09.47.
In the 60-meter hurdles, Zach Ray earned third place and recorded his best time of the season at 8.05.
Alex Lundy took sixth place in the 3000-meter run at 8:20.54, followed by Mike Cator in fourteenth at 8:36.59.
Maryland Notes:
Arielle Statham placed fourth in the triple jump at 38-09.5. Arielle Statham and Alexis Booker placed fifth and eighth in the 60-meter dash. Ashley Hendrix placed sixth in the 60-meter hurdles at 9.04. Moriah Young finished seventh in the shot put. Jessie Echard finished seventh in the weight throw. Lucile Cancre placed seventh in the high jump. In the 3000-meter run, Ashley Campbell, Angeli Sivaraman and Andrea Rothschild placed ninth, fourteenth and seventeenth respectively. In the 800, Kelley Pry placed twentieth with a mark of 2:19.72 and Christy Goldmann finished twenty-eighth at 2:26.01. In the 400, Tolulope Olugbemi and Natalie Goodman placed tenth and sixteenth.
Dareem David and John Davenport placed eighth and tenth in the 200-meter dash. Jeremy Samuels placed ninth in the 400-meter run. Ben Diestel placed twenty-third in the mile. Greg Kelsey, Greg Jubb, Ben Diestel and Kyle Gaffney placed fourth in the distance medley relay. Dwight Barbiasz did not participate.
