GREENSBORO, N.C. -
P Travis Baltz, DL A.J. Francis and OL Paul Pinegar were among 30 student-athletes named to the 2009 Academic All-Atlantic Coast Conference team on Wednesday.
Baltz, a senior for the Terps in the fall, made his third consecutive appearance on the team, while Francis and Pinegar were chosen for the first time.
To be eligible for consideration for Academic All-ACC, a player must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
Baltz was snakebit by injuries last season. Despite suffering a severely sprained ankle and broken finger, he managed to start seven games. He averaged 40.7 yards on 28 punts and would have ranked fourth in the ACC in average with enough games played.
It marks the ninth straight year a Maryland punter has been named to the team (Adam Podlesh 2003-06; Brooks Barnard 2001-02).
An honorable mention freshman All-America choice by College Football News, Francis posted 31 tackles on the season, tops among Terp defensive linemen. He started all 12 games at tackle and was also a freshman All-ACC selection by The Sporting News.
A former walk-on, Pinegar was `Mr. Versatility' for the Terps last season. He started all 12 games as a junior along the offensive line. He started the final five games at left guard after serving as the starting right tackle (four games) and left tackle (three contests).
A complete list of the team can be found here.
