
Six Earn Spots On ACC All-Academic Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Six Terrapin field hockey players continued the team's achievements from the 2009 season, as they earned spots on the Atlantic Coast Conference's All-Academic team the league announced today.
Kristina Foster, Megan Frazer, Alicia Grater, Janessa Pope, as well as Katie O'Donnell and Emma Thomas were all honored for their achievements in the classroom. O'Donnell and Thomas were honored at the end of the 2009 season as the ACC's Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively.
Maryland earned the second-highest total number of players on the team with six. Only Duke placed more student-athletes on the squad with eight. The Terps and the Blue Devils combined for 14 of the 30 All-Academic team spots.To qualify for selection to the ACC All-Academic team, student-athletes must have earned a 3.0 grade-point-average for the fall semester and have maintained a 3.0 GPA for their careers.
"This is such a testament to the all-around student-athletes on the Maryland field hockey team," the team's athletic academic advisor Laura Fellon said. "After having such a successful season on the field, they still maintained their focus in the classroom."
Three of the seven members of one of the most successful classes in Maryland field hockey history, Foster, Grater and Thomas, were all honored for the second time in their careers.
O'Donnell, the 2009 Honda Sports Award recipient, became the school's all-time leader in points and assists and broke the ACC's career assist record as well. This is her first time being honored as an All-ACC Academic team selection. She earned a 4.0 GPA for the fall 2009 semester.
Two Terrapin freshmen, Frazer and Pope, both earned spots on the conference's academic team. Frazer started 21 of 24 games for the Terrapins at midfield and scored the game-winning goal in the ACC Championship game. Pope saw action in all of the Terrapins' games this year earning valuable minutes. She scored five goals in the year.
