
Maryland Loses a Pair to Ranked Foes

SAN DIEGO - The Maryland water polo team lost a pair of games to ranked opponents on the final day of action at the Aztec Invitational.
The Terps (8-9) fell to 14th-ranked and tournament host San Diego State, 10-4, in Sunday's first game and went on to lose to third-ranked California, 14-1, later in the day.
The Aztecs (13-8) scored four goals in the second period to break open a close game. Amber Pezzolla and Meaghan Poland tallied three goals apiece to lead the scoring attack for SDSU.
Maryland got single goals from Meghan Powers, Jessica Ernst, Allison Campbell and Shannon Simerly.
Cal jumped on the Terps early and never looked back, scoring five goals in the opening period. Remy Champion and Dana Ochsner each scored three goals to lead a balanced attack with eight players hitting the back of the net.
Simone Lewis had Maryland's lone goal.
The Terrapins will look to get back on track next weekend when they participate in the Lancer Invite which is being held at California Baptist in Riverside, Calif. Maryland will play Long Beach State and Cal Baptist on Friday, and Concordia (Calif.) and Azusa Pacific on Saturday.
