COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Shelby Reyes had six first-half saves and Shannon Simerly, Allie Hill and Ally Beck all scored consecutive goals in the final period for the Terps, but it wasn't enough to overcome a solid performance overall by Michigan, which downed Maryland, 9-3, on Saturday.
The No. 7 Wolverines (25-6) scored the first seven goals of the game and held the Terps (13-13, 2-2) scoreless in the first half.
"Michigan played really well," Maryland head coach Carl Salyer said. "We gave them a lot of opportunities on net and on fast breaks."
After a pair of goals by Michigan's Meagan Cobb to open the fourth period, Beck scored Maryland's first goal with 6:47 remaining. Two more goals by Hill and Simerly would follow as the Terps cut the lead to four.
"All in all, we got stronger as the game went on. We had a good fourth quarter," Salyer said. "The reason we're playing them twice this weekend is so we get back at them."
Maryland will play division rival Princeton (15-8, 3-1) at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Sayler and the Terps will get a second chance against the Wolverines on Sunday at 10 a.m. before ending their five-game homestand against Bucknell (12-8, 4-1) at 2 p.m.
