COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Jamarr Robinson led the first team on five scoring drives and Da'Rel Scott capped two of those with touchdown runs to lead a solid offensive attack for the Maryland football team during Saturday's scrimmage at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium.

Scott had a 15-yard touchdown scamper on the second drive of the day as the offense scored on eight of 15 possessions which started from either its own 5- or 25-yard line, as well as midfield.

Scott also had a 5-yard TD run on a march which was set up by his own 50-yard run and a pair of completions by Robinson.

"I thought we made more improvement on offense," head coach Ralph Friedgen said following the 120-play scrimmage. "They moved the ball pretty well. I thought our execution was good."

Robinson completed 11 of 20 passes for 146 yards, including a 15-yard touchdown pass to Lansford Watson.

"I thought Jamarr played well," Friedgen said. "All three quarterbacks did alright."

Robinson, Danny O'Brien and C.J. Brown took all but a handful of the snaps under center.

O'Brien hit on 10 of 19 passes for 105 yards. He had a 3-yard touchdown pass to LaQuan Williams on one of the three red-zone possessions (starting at defense's 20-yard line).

Scott had a scrimmage-high 109 yards on just seven carries and looked "very explosive" according to Friedgen.

Gary Douglas also had a pair of TD runs, totaling 58 yards on eight carries. Caleb Porzel, working mostly with the third-team offense, had 104 yards on 17 carries. He also saw time on special teams, returning a punt and kickoff for a total of 31 yards.

"We're running the ball better than we did last year," Friedgen said. "Our offensive line protected very well today."

A.J. Francis, Joe Vellano and Bradley Johnson registered sacks for the defense.

Ben Pooler and Eric Franklin led the way in tackles with eight apiece for a defense that was without its top performer. Alex Wujciak, a two-time all-league performer, did not see action.

"We held Wujciak out and that has an impact, but I didn't think we tackled the way we're capable of," Friedgen said. "I didn't think our pursuit angles were very good."

Kenny Tate had an interception, picking off a Robinson pass and returning it 20 yards, and the defense broke up three passes and contested a number of others.

"I think our pass defense is getting better," Friedgen said. "Trenton Hughes made a couple of big plays. The offensive line got more push than the defensive line."

Nick Ferrara rebounded from an 0-for-4 performance in last week's first spring scrimmage. He connected on 4 of 7 field goals, including ones from 44 and 42 yards out.

Maryland will practice twice next week in preparation for the annual Red-White Spring Game which is scheduled for Saturday, April 24 (3:30 p.m. kickoff in Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium).
