COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Two former Maryland Terrapins were chosen in the 2010 NFL Draft on Saturday.
Offensive tackle Bruce Campbell was selected with the eighth choice in the fourth round (106th overall) by the Oakland Raiders and cornerback Nolan Carroll was picked 14th in the fifth round (145 overall) by the Miami Dolphins.
Campbell, a two-year starter at left tackle who played in 27 career games, joins former Terrapin teammate Darrius Heyward-Bey in Oakland. Another former Maryland player, Jon Condo, is also on the Raiders' roster.
Campbell, who surrendered his final year of eligibility to enter the draft, will also be one of a number of former Maryland offensive linemen playing professionally. Six ex-Terp linemen ended last season on an NFL roster.
The 6-foot-7, 310-pounder was nagged by injuries the last two seasons. He started 17 games in his career, but missed three last season due to turf toe and a sprained knee.
A native of Hamden, Conn., Campbell was one of the strongest and most agile linemen to come through College Park. His bench press of 490 lbs. in spring 2009 testing is the second-highest total in school history.
Carroll was also hindered in the draft process by an injury. The former wide receiver entered 2009 as the team's No. 1 cornerback, but broke his right tibia in the second game and did not suit up again for the Terps the rest of the season and was not fully healthy until the spring.
One of four team captains in 2009, Carroll played in 38 career games, posting 61 tackles and nine pass breakups.
The native of Green Cove Spring, Fla., owns the third-best vertical jump (41.0") in school history. He also attended the 2010 NFL Combine.
Larry Webster (third round in 1992) was the last Terrapin to be drafted by the Miami Dolphins.
The Terps are hopeful that more of last year's14-member senior class will sign free-agent contracts in the next few days.
Offensive lineman Phil Costa, defensive lineman Travis Ivey, running back Cory Jackson, defensive back Terrell Skinner and quarterback Chris Turner were other draft prospects.
