PRINCETON, N.J. - Shannon Simerly had her second straight solid game and the Maryland defense kept the George Washington attack in check allowing the Terps water polo team to cruise past the Colonials, 15-7, in Sunday's third-place game of the CWPA Southern Division tournament.

Simerly, who had a game-high three goals in Saturday's 7-6 semifinal loss to Princeton, netted a team-best four against the fourth-seeded Colonials (7-16)

Simerly also added three steals as the third-seed Terps (14-17) clamped down on the George Washington offense late in the first half.

"We had a little bit of a slow start," Maryland head coach Carl Salyer said. "We changed up our defense in the second quarter. We responded well and created good opportunities on the fast break."

Maryland stretched its slim two-goal lead at the end first quarter to a 10-4 halftime margin with six tallies in the second.

Allison Campbell (3), Alex Gurnee (3), Christine Goetsch (2) and Meghan Powers (2) each scored multiple times.

Rachel Stein played the entire game in net for the Terrapins, blocking 11 shots, the second-highest total of her career.
