POSITION VACANCY POSITION TITLE: Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach
DEPARTMENT: Intercollegiate Athletics CATEGORY: Full-time, Non-tenured Contractual Faculty (108331)
UNIVERSITY: The University of Maryland is one of the more comprehensive and successful athletic programs in the United States with 27 sports and an annual expense budget of approximately $55 million in the context of a distinguished academic University. The University is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities and is located on a beautiful campus located eight miles north of the nation's capital and near Columbia, Maryland, which was recently listed as the #4 “Best Place to Live” by Money Magazine. Currently, 92 of the University's academic programs are ranked in their respective Top 25 nationally.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist the Director of Basketball Performance in preparing the student-athletes on the Women's Basketball team for the rigors and demands of intercollegiate competition through the utilization of total athletic enhancement training. The primary function of this position will be to manage the total athletic performance preparation of the student-athletes to include: development of training programs; application of appropriate motivational techniques; instruction of student-athletes in the proper execution of weight training exercises, plyometrics, agility drills, flexibility training, speed improvement technique, and conditioning modalities; and communicating with appropriate coaching personnel regarding the needs and demands of the student-athletes. Other duties include assisting in the daily management of Intercollegiate Athletic Department weight training facilities, which includes the maintenance of a safe working environment and assisting in scheduling team usage.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree required. National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) or Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa) certification required. A minimum of two years of collegiate strength coaching experience preferred. Ideal candidate will be experienced in program design and application for a broad range of training systems and sport applications.
SALARY: Commensurate with experience.
