COLLEGE PARK, MD. - The University of Maryland women's soccer team checked in at No. 16 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) preseason poll, which was released on Tuesday.
The ACC is well-represented in the poll with seven teams in the Top 25: North Carolina (No. 1), Florida State (6), Boston College (7), Wake Forest (10), Virginia Tech (15), Maryland (16) and Virginia (17). The preseason poll is the first of 11 rankings throughout the season by the NSCAA.
The Terps will play two exhibition matches, starting on Wednesday, Aug. 11, with an away match at St. John's. Maryland then hosts American in an exhibition on Saturday, Aug. 14 at Ludwig Field at 7 p.m.
Maryland returns eight starters and 21 letterwinners from last season's squad that advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16. Coach Brian Pensky begins his sixth season in charge of the Terrapins and is looking to lead his team to back-to-back NCAA tournament bids for the first time since 2003-04.
