COLLEGE PARK, MD. - Good news travelled fast for the University of Maryland women's soccer team and its junior preseason All-American Jasmyne Spencer.
The Terps, who are off to a 4-0 start, are ranked 10th in both the NSCAA and Soccer America Top 25 rankings this week, marking the first time since 2000 that the Terps have cracked the Top 10. One reason for the Terps' ranking is the play of Spencer, who received three prestigious honors following her MVP performance at the First Tennessee Lady Vol Classic last weekend in Knoxville, Tenn.
Spencer was named the co-ACC Player of the Week after totaling three goals in wins over host Tennessee and 2009 Atlantic Sun Conference champion Kennesaw State. The Bay Shore, N.Y., native scored the Terps' third goal vs. the Lady Vols in a 3-1 victory on Aug. 27. Spencer then scored the Terrapins' first two goals, over a span of 3:05 of the 4-0 win over the Owls on Aug. 29.
In addition to the ACC honor, Spencer was also named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week and was listed among collegesoccer360.com's Primetime Performers.
Spencer and the Terps return to action on Sunday, Sept. 5 vs. Stony Brook in a 1 p.m. match at Ludwig Field.
