
Witmer Named ACC Player of the Week

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Freshman Jill Witmer of the Maryland field hockey team, ranked No. 2 in the latest Kookaburra / NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll, is the Atlantic Coast Conference's Player of the Week the league announced Tuesday.
Witmer earned the league's honor for the first time in her career. She scored the game-winning goal over conference opponent No.11 Boston College Saturday. Maryland (7-0, 1-0) fell behind 1-0 early, then junior Jemma Buckley tied it up a few minutes later. Witmer scored on a pass in front of the goal from O'Donnell to give the Terrapins a 2-1 lead. Maryland won 4-2.
In Sunday's game against No. 20 Massachusetts, Witmer had an assist to O'Donnell for the Terrapins' final goal in the 3-0 win.
Currently, Witmer is tied for fourth in the conference in points (15) and goals (6) and game-winning goals (2).
Maryland will head to No. 7 Wake Forest Saturday to continue its Atlantic Coast Conference slate. The Terps and the Demon Deacons will take the field at 1 p.m in Winston-Salem, N.C. Gametracker live stats will be available.
