
Maryland hits road to UNC, NC State

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - After winning their Atlantic Coast Conference home opener against Boston College, 3-1, the Terps embark on their first road series of the season to square off against North Carolina at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Maryland (10-3, 1-0 ACC) will take on the Tar Heels (10-4, 1-0 ACC), who are second in the ACC in assists per set and third in the conference in both kills and digs per set. Senior Christine Vaughen leads the North Carolina squad with a .368 attack percentage, seventh-best in the ACC.
The Terps started the year 9-3 in non-conference play, sweeping the competition at both the Maryland and Terrapin invitationals. Maryland, undefeated at home, will attempt to improve upon the its 3-3 record away from College Park.
Against Boston College, freshman Mary Cushman led the Terps with a new career-high 15 kills. She leads Maryland with a total of 140 kills on the season. Junior Lisa Scott, whose .362 attack percentage is the highest on the team, already ranks sixth in school history with 61 block solos. Scott is on pace to threaten the school's all-time mark of 97.
On Saturday, Maryland will head eastbound and down to Raleigh to challenge NC State. The Wolfpack (10-3, 0-1 ACC) are led by Junior Margaret Salata and her .390 attack percentage, fourth-best in the ACC. All time, Maryland is 23-34 against the Tar Heels and 39-18 opposite the Wolfpack.
Following the weekend road trip, the Terps will spend next weekend in North Carolina, once again, to take on Wake Forest and Duke before returning home to host Virginia Tech on October 8 at 7 p.m.
