COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland field hockey team, ranked No. 2 in the latest Kookaburra / NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll, will head south this weekend to face No. 8 Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Terps (7-0, 1-0) and the Demon Deacons (6-2, 1-0) will play Saturday at 1 p.m. at Kentner Stadium.
Maryland owns the all-time series over the Wake Forest 24-11, defeating them twice in the 2009 season. The Terps won 4-1 in College Park on Sept. 26 and 4-2 in the semifinals round of the ACC Tournament in November.
The Terrapins have not lost to the Demon Deacons since 2007. The two teams have met twice in the NCAA national championship game. In 2006, the Terps won 1-0 and 4-2 in 2008.
Maryland is coming off of a five-game home stand. Most recently, it beat No. 11 Boston College 4-2 last Saturday and No. 20 UMass 3-0 Sunday.
Freshman Jill Witmer was named the ACC's Player of the Week for her two-goal, one-assist performance in the two games. Junior Jemma Buckley was named to womensfieldhockey.com's weekly honor roll for her three goals last weekend.
In Saturday's game, senior Katie O'Donnell broke the ACC's career points record with her 231st point. Last season, she broke the league's career assist record.
Gametracker live stats will be available and the game will be broadcast live at WMUCSports.com.
