COLLEGE PARK, Md. - After finishing in the top half of the Cougar Classic, the University of Maryland women's golf team will compete in the UNCG Starmount Forest Fall Classic at Bryan Park in Browns Summit, N.C., on Sunday.
The Terps opened their fall season at the Cougar Classic, where they finished tied for 11th out of 21 teams in Charleston, S.C. Senior Kerri Connolly led Maryland with a team-best 37th-place finish. Sophomore Christine Shimel followed Connolly with a final score of 77, good enough for 42nd overall.
Maryland is coming off a successful 2009-10 season in which they claimed six top-5 finishes and qualified for the 2010 NCAA Tournament. In the West Regional in Stanford, Calif., the Terps finished in 18th place.
Led by head coach Jason Rodenhaver, Maryland returns seven student-athletes, including All-ACC selections Jessica Hollandsworth, a junior, and Shimel. The Terps have also added walk-on Lauren Smith to the roster.
Due to several serious course problems over the last several weeks, the fall classic will be held at nearby Bryan Park. Because of the move, all three rounds will be shotgun, starting on Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
