COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland field hockey team, ranked No. 2 in the latest Kookaburra / NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll, will head to Princeton N.J. Tuesday to take on the fourth-ranked Tigers at 6 p.m. at the Class of 1952 Stadium. Maryland owns the all-time record over the Tigers 14-4-1 and has won the last 13 meetings.
The Terrapins (8-0, 2-0) and the Tigers (6-0, 2-0) last met in the 2009 NCAA Semifinals in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Terps won 7-5, making the game the highest-scoring semifinals match in NCAA tournament history. Senior Katie O'Donnell led the Terrapins offensively with three goals and three assists for nine points - the most ever in the NCAA semifinals or finals game.
Earlier in the 2009 season, the Terps won 3-2 in overtime as Nicole Muracco scored the game-winner in extra minutes on Oct. 7.
Most recently, Maryland won at No. 8 Wake Forest 5-3 Saturday behind freshman Jill Witmer's two-goal performance. Witmer was named the ACC's Player of the Week on Sept. 21. Over the weekend, Princeton beat Yale 7-0.
