The University of Maryland volleyball team defeated Wake Forest 3-2 Thursday night in Winstom-Salem, N.C. After trailing the Demon Deacons (9-5, 2-2 ACC) 2-1, the Terps (12-4, 3-1 ACC) won their final two sets 25-22 and 15-10, respectively.
Junior Maddi Lee recorded a season-high 18 kills to lead Maryland in the comeback win. The Terps also benefited from a well-rounded performance by junior Lisa Scott who tallied 13 kills and seven block assists.
Tied with Wake Forest 18-18 in the fourth set, Maryland used Maddi Lee's 17th kill of the night to give the Terps the lead, which they would hold for the remainder of the night. Lee's final kill occurred at game-point in the tiebreaker set and gave Maryland its third ACC win of the season.
Wake Forest started off strong, handling Maryland 25-19 in the first set, in which they recorded a game-high .387 attack percentage. Sophomore ACC player of the week Andrea Beck hit .438 on the night while also landing 18 kills, seven digs and four total blocks.
The Terrapins will end their North Carolina road trip Friday as they travel west to Durham, N.C. to face Duke (11-2, 3-0 ACC) at 7 p.m. Last season, the Blue Devils swept Maryland, winning both games 3-0.
