Friday's Live Stats

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland field hockey team, ranked No. 1 in the latest Kookaburra / NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll, will play at No. 3 Virginia Friday at 5 p.m. in Charlottesville. The Terps (8-1, 2-0 ACC) and the Cavaliers (9-0, 1-0 ACC) have not met since the ACC Championship game last November, in which Maryland won 3-2 in overtime.

Maryland and Virginia have two of the most prolific offensive players in the country in the Cavaliers' Paige Selenski and the Terps' Katie O'Donnell. The two lead the ACC in points scored this season with 31 each. Selenski leads the league in goals with 14 and O'Donnell has nine. O'Donnell leads the conference in assists with 14.

The Terps own the all-time series over the Cavaliers, 35-19-2. The two teams met twice in 2009, with Maryland taking both. On Oct. 2, the Terrapins won 3-1 in College Park. In the ACC Championship game, the Cavaliers took a 2-0 lead before the break. Maryland scored twice quickly to tie it up. Sophomore Megan Frazer scored the game-winning goal in overtime off a penalty corner.

Freshman Jill Witmer is currently the ACC's Player of the Week for the second consecutive week. She had the game-winner in the Terrapins' 5-3 win at No. 8 Wake Forest Saturday.

Most recently, the Terrapins fell 4-2 at No. 4 Princeton Tuesday night. The Tigers took a 2-0 lead before halftime. With just over nine minutes remaining in the game, O'Donnell scored on a high shot from near the top of the circle. Less than 20 seconds later, the Tigers scored again. Jemma Buckley scored the Terrapins' final goal. Tuesday marked the Terps' first regular season loss since 2008.

Friday's game will be broadcast live on WMUCSports.com and live stats will be available. Sunday's game at No. 19 Michigan will not be broadcast, but live stats will be available.
