COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
The Maryland water polo team is in the midst of its off-season program. A member of the squad will be writing a blog each week as the team gears up for the 2012 season.
The team completed its fifth week of off-season workouts Friday.

Week 5 has definitely been the one of the most outstanding weeks of Maryland Water Polo so far with lots of exciting things going on in and out of the water.
A surprise inter-squad scrimmage on Monday set everyone in ATTACK mode for rest of the week, which helped us destroy the stadium run on Tuesday. This was the first week we ran the whole stadium so were all looking forward to how Serela is going challenge us next week. Stadium piggybacks perhaps?
The team had been anxious to find out who our Thursday and Friday guest speaker was going to be. We were all thrilled to see workers from "The Program" - our favorite boot camp experts. This time round they were here to talk to us about mental aspects of being on a team instead of the physical side. Although it was sad that Eric couldn't join us, I was secretly happy I didn't have to jump in the pool fully clothed for army practice again. During these classroom sessions we learned a lot about our teammates and decided on our team mission - WIN EASTERNS, along with some team values to adhere to.
To top all that off, this weekend we participated in the Pancreatic Cancer Purple Stride walk in Cockeysville raising $230...and on Saturday we celebrated sophomore Shelby Nickel's 19th Birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHELBYYYY!
