COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland water polo team is in the midst of its off-season program. A member of the squad will be writing a blog each week as the team gears up for the 2012 season.
The team completed its sixth week of off-season workouts Friday.

Week 6 flew by as another great training week and the last of our captain's workouts. Even though it was a recovery week to prepare for the next phase of training, we still worked hard every day starting with a challenging jump-rope circuit and completing the entire stadium. Yes, Simone was right (check out Water Blog 5) - we even piggy-backed our teammates up the stairs!
Mid-week we welcomed a guest speaker who talked with us about alcohol and drug use and abuse. We learned not only about the consequences of irresponsible drinking and drugs, but also about how to keep yourself and others safe. It was informative, interactive and a great team bonding experience.
The week ended with a creative, new circuit by Brent, our strength coach, and another great training match: we are really starting to come together as a team, playing more cohesive defense and more aggressive offense.
This weekend we volunteered at the canned food drive at Maryland Madness by building and setting up boxes and collecting cans for the Capital Area Food Bank. After, we all stayed and cheered on the Maryland Men's and Women's basketball teams as they prepared for their season. The guest performances, like Gymkana, were amazing to witness live in the crowd that nearly filled Comcast. The 40th edition of Maryland Madness featured famous Terp alums too!
Another week over and another week closer to winning Easterns - Go Terps!
