KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - Freshman Emily Gimpel and junior Christine Shimel each carded a first round 73 to pace the Maryland women's golf team Sunday at the Palmetto Intercollegiate at the par-72, 5,907-yard Oak Point Golf Course. The second round ended due to darkness and will resume Monday morning. The Terps are tied for third heading into the second day.

Gimpel's 73 is her lowest 18-hole round of the season. The Lafayette Hill, Pa., native is tied for 13th with a 127 (73-54) along with fellow freshman Juliet Vongphoumy.

Shimel is tied for 18th midway through the second round. Senior Jessica Hollandsworth carded a 4-over 76 to tie for 32nd and junior Hayley Brown is tied for 38th.

The second round will resume Monday morning and be followed immediately by the third round.

When play was suspended, UNC Greensboro led the tournament. The Spartans' Fanny Cnops led all individuals.
