COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland water polo team is in the midst of its off-season program. A member of the squad will be writing a blog each week as the team gears up for the 2012 season.
The team completed its seventh week of off-season workouts Friday.

Hi Maryland Water Polo people!
This week was super exciting because it was the first week of our in-season, out of season training where we can start practicing full time every week. Although, captains practices with Christine and Shelby leading us were fun while they lasted because we got to work on training more specifically for each person. This week was also a tough week in the weight room and Brent kicked our butts. We upped our weights and I feel like we did a hundred million squats.
We started this week off with our first lake run. It was nice to run on a trail instead of stadiums but our run was the longest it has been yet so it was still difficult. We joked around with the freshmen saying that it was tradition to jump into the lake once we got there but obviously we didn't do that (even though I would have loved it and it would have been pretty funny). Later that day we worked on some counter attack drills. I think our counters looked pretty good! Later in the week, we lifted and cycled like usual and worked on our man ups and man downs. One of our main goals this year is to have a better man up shooting percentage, which I definitely think we can make happen.
Then on Friday we did our usual intersquad training match that was fun because it was mostly underclassmen vs upperclassmen (and it was the first time I've won a scrimmage this year yay☺). The training matches are a good way to end the week by using some of the skills in our match that we have gone over during the week.
This weekend is Family Weekend so a lot of parents are down here as well. It is nice to spend time with some of our teammates moms and dads and it feels a little more like home. Also on Saturday we participated in the men's lacrosse pancreatic cancer walk to support our fellow Terps and give back to the community. I think it was a nice way for our team to show our support and do something to make a change.
